Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is coming to LMPS!!!

What is Positive Behaviour for Learning?

Lake Munmorah P.S staff and students are excited to be introducing a new positive behaviour framework for our school to support the wellbeing of every student.

This framework is an evidence based, positive, social, student focussed approach to behaviour that involves the whole school community. It includes creating, teaching and rewarding expected and pro-social behaviours and involves everyone, everywhere, every time.

PBL boosts student engagement in learning by increasing attendance and retention, and improving student behaviour in all settings across the school.

In the early stages PBL expectations are developed for all playground settings in the school. Classroom teachers will still be incorporating ‘You Can Do It' strategies and awards on a classroom level. Over time, we will see a merging of these two approaches ensuring we meld the two to get the best framework to support the students and their learning.

The PBL framework will be underpinned by three core values, which we will uphold at all times. They will guide our expectations of student behaviours.  Consultations with our staff and classroom connectors so far have led us to identify three values for students to follow:

•  RESPECT

•  RESPONSIBLE

· PERSONAL BEST

These values are still in draft and will be raised for further discussion at the P&C meeting next Tuesday evening. If you wish to comment or have input please come along to the meeting or directly contact the school and ask to speak to a member of the PBL team.

How will PBL work at LMPS?

Regular staff meetings throughout the year are used to identify and refine our expected behaviours in all areas of the school. These are then turned into explicit lessons through a collaborative process between all staff, and are refined in the PBL teams meetings. Each week students are involved in lessons that specifically teach and practice our expectations that are continually reinforced through daily assemblies, the newsletter, the website, the APP and via the electronic school sign. Lessons will be supported with visuals throughout the school to remind children of our expectations.

PBL is still in the beginning developmental stages at LMPS and will be introduced gradually into the school throughout this year. Once we are ready a formal launch of PBL will be held in early 2018.

If you have any questions about PBL, please contact the front office and Mr Holmes or someone from the PBL team will contact you.

We look forward to introducing PBL!
