Watch students ask an expert the tough questions about NAPLAN.
The National Assessment Program is run at the direction of the Education Council. It includes the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), the three-yearly sample assessments in science literacy, civics and citizenship, and information and communication technology (ICT) literacy, and participation in international sample assessments. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is the independent statutory authority responsible for the overall management of the Australian National Assessment Program, in collaboration with representatives from all states and territories and non-government school sectors. NAPLAN NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken every year in the second full week in May.
This year, Year 6 students are offered the opportunity to participate in the Young Teen Talk program. This is a health & sexuality program which is run by CHI (communicating health initiates). Susie Blackwood, the presenter, is a practicing nurse, midwife, & experienced sexuality educator. Since 2011 CHI. has been proud to receive the PINS Award for Excellence, based on feedback from schools. That’s because, students, teachers, parents & carers, have consistently praised & appreciated not just her rapport with students & style of teaching / management, but also the quality & variety offered in the actual program! Young Teen Talk compliments & supports nine of the key learning outcomes for N.S.W. Stage 3 PD/H/PE curriculum. It’s engaging & interactive & stacks of fun! Respect in its many forms links all topics that are appropriate to age & grade.
This year, students in Stage 2 have been learning about ‘Night and Day’ as part of their Science unit. To consolidate this, students will have the opportunity to attend an incursion with the Skyworks Planetarium in Week 6. We hope that all students are able to attend as it will be an enjoyable and educational experience.
